It's bonding time! This great episode starts in the present and then takes us back to see the series of events that led to Haley jamming in a car with Brooke and Peyton and Nathan and Lucas wandering around the woods at night.
To find out what happens we have to go back 12 hours earlier, back to Tree Hill High, where Nathan invites Haley to his away game. She says she'll think about it. Spoiler alert: She goes.
At the game, Brooke births the name "Tutor Girl" when talking about the romantic dynamics within the main characters. She thinks Nathan likes Haley (he gave her the nod!), Haley likes Lucas, she likes Lucas, and she doesn't know who Peyton likes anymore.
Lucas and Nathan get into a fight during the game that results in Brooke being trampled and badly injuring her knee. She flirts with the doctor so that she can get painkillers, and takes 2 despite them being extremely powerful. Oh, silly Brooke.
When leaving the game, Brooke invites Haley (who is waiting to take a bus home) to drive with her and Peyton. She asks Haley her name and then tells her that she doesn't like that name. She decides to call her "Brooke" for the rest of the night. Peyton and Haley resort to an awkward car ride with a very high Brooke Davis.
On the basketball bus, Whitey pulls over and makes Lucas and Nathan get off and walk home. This is so weird to me. Why would he even let them get on the bus in the first place if he was going to punish them? Why leave them deserted in the middle of nowhere (This is before smart phones, guys!)? And as we soon learn, Tree Hill isn't exactly a safe town. So maybe like, don't do that.
Being deserted results in some bonding time for the estranged brothers. They bicker until a car pulls up telling them to get in. Lucas is wary, because he's the smart one. Nathan is like "Nah, man! Let's go!" And everyone watching is like, "Don't do it." Turns out, the guys in the car are the Ravens' rivals (I don't know their names, so they're gonna be called the Jerky Jerks), and since the Ravens just kicked their asses, they're pissed! They're out for revenge! They're going to...kidnap the Scott brothers?
They take their clothes, which is such a weird way of revenge because the Scott brothers look gorgeous sans shirts. The Jerky Jerks also write "Ravens Suck" on their backs, 'cause they're classy. Lucas and Nathan are then forced to go shop for odd items (dirty magazines is one of them, I believe) shirtless and with the writing on their backs. The police are called, however, and so they end up back in the car with the Jerky Jerks. They pull over and force Lucas and Nathan to physically fight one another in order to get their clothes back and guess what THEY ACTUALLY DO IT. It's so dumb, you guys. Somehow Nathan ends up with the keys to the car, and then tells the Jerky Jerks that in order to get the keys back, they need to give them their clothes back. He then 'throws' the keys into the woods.
Meanwhile, Haley and Peyton and Brooke run out of gas, and have to walk to the nearest gas station. Brooke has to stay in the car though, 'cause she's still on drugs. They get to know each other better, and Haley tells Peyton that Lucas is into her, and Peyton reiterates that Haley needs to "be careful" when it comes to Nathan. It's the start of a wonderful friendship.
Lucas and Nathan resort to the woods to hide from the Jerky Jerks (who are now arguing because they got their car keys stolen). Lucas gives Nathan his 'Keith Scott Body Shop' hoody (I feel like it's important to note this, and I don't know why, I just love it) and then Nathan reveals that he never really threw the keys. Yay! They can drive away! Just kidding. When they try to start the car, it doesn't 'cause mud, so they have to walk home. While walking, they run into...Haley, Peyton, and Brooke! How weird!
Brooke doesn't remember inviting Haley (she's sober now) and Lucas and Nathan are both weirded out by the newfound friendship between Haley and Peyton. It's the first time the main characters are all together! It's amazing! But Brooke is negative, and insists that they won't all be friends once school rolls around. She isn't wrong.
The other plot of this episode involves Dan/Deb and Karen/Keith going to this small business dinner thing and then Dan and Keith end up fighting (like punching and shit) and Keith gets drunk and when he gets back to the cafe he tells Karen that he loves her. I just summarized that in one run-on sentence. That's how important it was.
Favorite Line: "This is so tragic. You two don't think you're gonna be friends tomorrow, do you?" Brooke to Peyton and Haley. Little did she know they would be best friends for life!
Best nickname: Tutor girl, given to Haley by Brooke.
Cutest moment: Keith telling Karen that he loves her, and he always has (AND HE ALWAYS WILL).
Next time on the OTH Rewatch: A very drunk Brooke Davis changes EVERYTHING.
