Brooke Davis is a bitch, y'all. No matter how much we grow to love her, 16 year old Brooke showed absolutely no mercy whatsoever. She is ruthless.
The Scott family is throwing a (very formal) party for a reason nobody really knows. What we do know is that those on the invite list include the basketball players, the cheerleaders, and the parents. Lucas is like, "No way I'm going to that!" But then Peyton bats her eyelashes at him and he's convinced. He's now going.
Nathan is still being tutored by Haley and tells her about the party, and apologizes for not inviting her (it's basketball peeps only!). She doesn't really care, what she does care about is him doing well in school so she makes him a little care package and tells him that if he needs her, she'll be able to help. It's so freaking cute, guys.
We learn more about Jake Jagalski in this episode too! He's always late to practice and always has to dip out early and everyone just lets him. What is he hiding?
Peyton once again tells her new BFF Haley James to "be careful" when it comes to Nathan, which is starting to get on Hales' and my nerves. Like, let her fight her own battles, P. Sawyer. She hasn't had to be careful thus far, so maybe just lay off a little and stop scaring the poor thing.
Lucas and Haley talk as Luke gets ready to go to the party, and Haley finally admits to liking Nathan. Lucas is less than thrilled, but he's still a great best friend and is supportive of her, which is super awesome. He goes to the party with Karen and Keith, who are both anxious to be attending a gathering at the Scott household as well. They come up with a little bird call in case any of the three of them wanna dip.
Things get really dramatic when Brooke makes Nathan and Peyton talk to one another about getting back together, despite neither of them wanting to. This leaves room for Brooke to make a move on Lucas. Nathan and Peyton yell at Brooke, who storms off and finds the little care package that Haley made Nathan, and looks at the note inside of it. She also grabs some vodka from his dresser drawer. Drunk Brooke is ready to rage.
Brooke decides to play 'Truth or Dare' because she is furious with everyone. She dares Peyton to kiss Lucas, and she does, which results in them almost hooking up but not because Peyton is terrified of commitment and real feelings. The kiss pisses Brooke off even more and she goes on a warpath. When Haley arrives with dessert from the cafe because of some mixup with Deb's caterer, Brooke embarrasses Haley in front of everyone and tells her that Nathan made fun of her note, despite never seeing it. Haley runs off, and Nathan does a bad job at defending himself.
Dan is having a rough night too, because his ex and his wife are becoming friends and he only lives for drama. He gets mad at Deb despite her being the only sane one. Whatever, Dan.
After Lucas is ditched by Peyton, he goes back to the cafe where Haley is crying (aww) because her heart is being played with. They sit together and have the cutest little best friend bonding you ever did see. Later, Nathan comes to the cafe to apologize, but Haley is like "Hell, no" and turns off the lights and locks the door.
Brooke passes out at Nathan's house after effectively ruining everyone's romantic lives. Next episode she tries to rewrite the story though!
Also, guess what? Jake Jagalski is a DAD. He has a little baby daughter named Jenny and that's why he's always leaving early. He has to take care of his baby. I remember the first time I watched this and being so shocked because Jake totally did not seem like the 'accidentally knock a girl up' type, but he was! And he is a fantastic dad! And singer! And person! I love Jake Jagalski.
Favorite Line: "I wanna have everything with you." Lucas to Peyton. It's super ballsy to be that upfront about his feelings, and it's super embarrassing that he then gets shut down, but he tried! He tried so hard.
Worst character moment: Brooke exposing everyone :( C'mon, B. Davis.
Biggest surprise: JAKE JAGALSKI IS A DAD!
Random Observation: What is this party for? Like I know it's for basketball and stuff, but everyone is super dressed up and fancy and I just don't know why. I didn't know high school basketball was SUCH A BIG DEAL. Someone explain this.
